Pre-Operative Blood Work and Exams
All of our surgical procedures for patients over 5 years of age now require Pre-Operative blood work and exams. This is to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo an anesthetic procedure. As part of this blood work, we check liver and kidney function, your pet’s complete blood count (CBC), and a heartworm test (if your pet is not currently on heartworm prevention and has not been tested in the last year). While your pet is under anesthesia they receive fluid therapy to help regulate their heart rate and blood pressure. This also gives us access to an IV in case of an emergency. Your pet’s heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation will be monitored throughout the procedure.
