Here at Pflugerville Animal Hospital, we believe in the importance of preventive care for your pets.
Vaccines are necessary to protect our pets from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) diseases. They are made to keep our pets healthy and disease-free.
There are many different vaccinations, so it is important to discuss your location and your pet’s lifestyle with our staff and your veterinarian. Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease. There are core vaccines for cats and dogs. For dogs and cats the first vaccine on the list is Rabies. This vaccination is required by law and in some cities require a certificate from your veterinarian and a license from your city. Rabies is available in a 1 year vaccine and a 3 year vaccine. You can talk to your veterinarian and staff to see which one your pet is eligible for. The other core vaccines we recommend for dogs is a Distemper/Parvovirus combo vaccines annually and a Leptospirosis vaccine every 6 months. For cats the other core vaccine is an annual FVRCP or kitty distemper. We recommend that all cats have at least two Feline Luekemia vaccines, and those cats who are outdoors frequently have it boostered every year.
When you bring your pets in for vaccinations, we give them an examination to make sure they are doing well and not having any problems. If you have any concerns about your pet’s health, we can discuss them at your visit.
